This is a hard pill to swallow for a lot of the successful.

I do wish to be successful myself, but I don't wish to be as blind as many people have become. I also do not wish to be as cynical or misguided.

I am in a good position to succeed: I had a good upbringing and even after my parents split, there was no bitterness between them; I was smart as a child and was encouraged into a healthy lifestyle; my dad taught me about money from a young age; and I never had bad friends.

Don't get me wrong, I am not anywhere near successful, and I may never be, but even coming from a poorer family I can clearly see I have been given many more dice to play with.

This is why I wrote a piece about survivorship bias. Because I would say I am a hard worker, but so does everyone else so does it really have that much of an impact on success?
